 French I
This course places special emphasis on the development of and acquiring proficiency in the four basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension.  The course is designed to impress upon the student a basic approach to the French Language so that it can best be seen as a living medium, transmitting a variety of customs and attitudes which students need to understand.  Through an ability to communicate in another language, the student can in turn begin to appreciate the complexity of a culture and people other than his/her own.
 French II
This course is concerned with the study of standard French grammar in greater detail.  Among other materials covered are:  French culture and civilization, a more varied French vocabulary, written compositions, and reading short stories or novels in French.  NOTE:  French I is a prerequisite of this course.  Students who pass the French I proficiency exam in the 8th grade must schedule French II as an elective in the 9th grade.
