| | Accounting I This course is designed to give the student an understanding of economic values and activities, the increased usage of automated data processing, and record-keeping or journals, ledgers, worksheets, bank statements, checkbooks, etc. Students who plan to follow a business curriculum should schedule this course. This course is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Emphasis is placed on the mastery of basic accounting concepts and procedures. It is recommended that a student scheduling this course have at least a 2.0 or better grade point average. | Administrative Support Occupations---(Office Procedures) This course is designed to prepare students as support staff in a business sector. Emphasis is placed on the integration of business and communication concepts and skills necessary to prepare students to become members of the workforce. Oral and written communications, time management, decision-making, interpersonal, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and technology skills are reinforced in this course through business application projects. Students have the opportunity to use a network computer lab to reinforce basic clerical skills. The course includes units on job orientation, management, office machines, financial recordkeeping, database and spreadsheet processing, mail and shipping, and pre-employment activities. (PREREQUISITE: Keyboarding/Keyboarding Applications and/or Introduction to Business Computer Applications) | Introduction to Business Computer Applications This course is designed to provide students with basic computer applications skills. Students will be introduced to the touch method of operating a computer keyboard to produce simple business documents. Emphasis is placed on basic computer concepts, hardware and software, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. Computer technology will be presented that could lead to the student's ability to obtain certification in basic information technology. (NOTE: This course is required as a Carnegie unit (computer elective) beginning with the freshman class of the 2004-2005 school session) | Word Processing This course is taught in a computer lab where students learn the various aspects of word processing including vocabulary, proofreading, inserting, deleting, and merging of documents. Computer programs such as Word Perfect are used to teach this course. Skills in keyboarding and critical thinking are reinforced in this course as students format, create, and proofread brochures, programs, newsletters, Power Point presentations, and manuscripts. (PREREQUISITE: Keyboarding/Keyboarding Applications or Introduction to Business Computer Applications). |
