Career Connections

Career Connections is annual event for the 10th grade students in Iberia, Lafayette, and St. Martin Parish.  It is held at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette, LA.

Students are provided bus transportation to the Cajun dome. They spend approximately one hour visiting the Career Expo. The Career Expo consists of over 200 career booths.

The career booths consist of local college personnel, businesses, banks, LTC, armed services, and numerous other career fields. Students have to interview at least four business people and turn in their results. Another hour is spent at the Six Reality Stores. The five reality stores discuss life expenses like transportation, housing, family life, leisure and entertainment, and money tree.

Students each have a worksheet in which they fill in how much money they want to budget for the five areas or booths visited. They are also asked of their future career plans after high school and the salaries of those future jobs. They also have questions about their future families.

After visiting all five booths, the students realize the importance of a good education. An education that affords them all life’s necessities and luxuries.

If you are interested in volunteering your time to help at the Career Connections or if you wish to sponsor one of the career booths, contact your high school.
