Career and Tech

St. Martin Parish provides a variety of Career and Technical Education Programs. Career and Tech courses provided in the 2011-2012 school year at our three high schools include Drafting, Welding, First Responder, Sports Medicine, Pro Start, Baking and Pastries, Business Computer Applications, Agriculture, Small Engine Repair, Early Childhood Education, Digital Photography, Broadcasting, Clothing, Journey for Careers, Education for Careers, and Barber/Hairstyling.

The Career and Technical Program continues through our partnership with the Louisiana Technical College System(LTC). The courses offered at ATC (Acadiana Technical College, Evangeline Campus in St. Martinville) include Welding, Carpentry, Collision Repair, Child Development, and Certified Nursing Assistant.

Our students can get dual enrollment in most of these courses if the student and teacher meet the criteria. Check with your high school to find out if you qualify. You can get free LTC credit while attending high school and get a jump start on your career.

Through our partnership with LTC, students are provided with opportunities to receive technical training in preparation for the workforce. The main goal of St. Martin Parish Career and Technical Program is to create a work-ready workforce upon completion of high school and post-secondary technical education.

The programs at both LTC and the high schools are in the process of expanding their curriculum offerings.  Current legislation has provided funds for the ATC Evangeline campus to expand and upgrade their facilities. A new structure is planned to be built in the near future as an extension to the existing facility.  Also, we are looking into a future career center for students in all three high schools to attend.

We also are in partnership with St. Martin Parish government to establish career/technology classes.  We have established a Barber/Hairstyling class for our students. The class is located in Cecilia.

This class will be held at the St. Martin Parish Technology Center, owned by the Parish Government. The class  started in January 2009. The class falls under the Louisiana Barber Board curriculum. Adult Ed. classes are at this facility also.
