Message from Lottie Beebe, Director of Human Resources As the Director of Human Resources, I envision improved efficiency in the Personnel Department for the 2010-2011 school year. Greater effort will be expended in the areas of recruitment, retention, and the support of new teachers. While emphasis is placed on hiring and retaining teachers, the goal of the Human Resources Department is to provide support and assistance to all personnel in an effort to bring about greater efficiency and competency through an experienced work force. To summarize some of the accomplishments of past years, there has been an increased effort to communicate the many changes that have occurred in the area of teacher certification and highly-qualified requirements resulting from No Child Left Behind mandates. St. Martin Parish conducted its first annual Teacher Induction Week prior to the beginning of the 2003-2004 school year. This activity was made possible through a grant award of $8,000 provided by the Louisiana Department of Education. This event has become an annual activity due to its effectiveness and is currently funded by the St. Martin Parish School Board. New teachers employed by the St. Martin Parish School System area assisted through the St. Martin Parish Teacher Induction Program. Ms. Courville, Personnel Supervisor, continues the excellent job of facilitating monthly meetings and other staff development opportunities for new teachers. The Celebration for Success activity continues as the St. Martin Parish School District celebrates the success of its new teachers.
Recruitment abounds as new hires are secured from an in-parish job fair, as well as from visits to local colleges and universities in search of the brightest and most capable teachers for our school district. Emphasis is constantly placed on certification and highly-qualified personnel in an effort to maintain compliance with the No Child Left Behind Legislation. All employees have been presented with an employee reference guide that identifies policies and procedures, dress codes, and other relevant information that may prove advantageous to a new employee. As new employees are hired with the district, a reference guide is distributed. The resource guide contains valuable information since it is user-friendly and addresses many areas of concern. The St. Martin Parish School District now has an up-to date policy manual for which it should be proud. With the assistance of Mr. James Prescott, CEO of Forethought, Consulting, Inc., the St. Martin Parish School Board can keep current its policy manual. With ongoing legislative changes at the local, state, and national levels, I communicate frequently with Mr. Prescott to facilitate the necessary revisions to board policies and additionally, for Board approval and inclusion in the policy manuals.
While great strides have occurred within the department during my six years tenure, I envision a greater depth of efficiency for the 2010-2011 school year. It is through the utilization of the team approach, that efficiency and competency are recognized. As a team working together, the aforementioned can be attained. The motivation that supports this success is best illustrated through the following: “A CHAIN IS ONLY AS STRONG AS ITS WEAKEST LINK!" In closing, I want to thank you for your interest in the St. Martin Parish School System. Please feel free to contact me regarding employment opportunities. Lottie Beebe, Director Office of Human Resources
