Loozi-Doodle by Kaylan P
These “Loozi-Doodle” artworks were drawn by students from five different schools across St. Martin Parish. These creative students are all in the Talent Visual Arts Program. Following our “Louisiana” theme this year, students created these amazing doodles starting with the outline of our state. The only requirement was to draw the doodle with black pen.

Math strategies addressed in primary schools include the K-3 scope and sequence for the Scott Foresman Addison Wesley mathematics text and MathWings. Math Initiative (2004-2005) The Title I, Special Education, Title II and LA4 programs united efforts to improve math education in grades K-6 by providing Everyday Calendar Counts intense, sustained inservice training to all K-6 teachers. Upon completion of the initial and follow-up training, Everyday Calendar Counts kits were provided to each teacher. Full implementation of the program began in the 2004-2005 school year. This program has been credited with improving test scores throughout the nation. Supervisory staff and teachers are excited about the program and pleased with its results thus far. Training updates and monitoring of program effectiveness is ongoing. A Math Fair is held annually. Students in grades 3-12  are encouraged to participate.

MathWings provides a practical, comprehensive approach based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards. The program includes time for students to practice what they have learned and discovered. Opportunities for both invention and practice of math concepts are embedded in the program. It enables students to create their own mathematical knowledge of concepts and allows students to continually practice this acquired knowledge. The MathWings program uses cooperative learning while incorporating problem solving in real situations, skill practice and reinforcement, calculator use, alternative assessments, connections to literature, and application to the students' world and personal experiences.

The Scott Foresman Math is the adopted math textbook for the next seven (7) years. All teachers have been trained in strategies to fully implement the math program including the technology components.
